As an experiment, The Washington Post asked Joshua Bell to pull out his Stradivarius violin and play, unannounced, at the L'Enfant Plaza Metro Station one morning. On January 12, for 43 minutes, that's just what he did. 1,097 people walked by him. How did they react, and how much money did he collect?
